Yes, it has been awhile since I updated my blog and I have only myself to blame. Maybe I'll write about it in my next blog? This one will be a really short one, please bear with me?

Today is the first time I started cooking again after I had a little accident. Can't do any heavy work after that. Well, not that cooking is a heavy job but I just can't do it or maybe I'm just plain lazy? Okay, back to cooking...so, I decided to make Swedish meatballs as it needs the least preparation work and with the help of my angels it was a success!

These meatballs are made from 3 types of meat, pork, beef and mutton. Add some chopped onion, garlic, 1 egg and breadcrumbs that has been soaked in milk. Season with salt, pepper and all spice. Mixed them all up and shape into balls. Shallow fry them with olive oil till golden brown and served with salad of your choice. Yes, just that easy! Try it!

Long weekend means time for a break? From your usual routines, yes? Maybe not for some? For me....it's a time for a few good movies (if there's any).

Well, I watched a few and yes, there's this movie that I like and I think everyone should go watch it!

...."My Name Is Khan"....

A Bollywood movie by Karan Johar starring Datuk Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. A very emotional movie that touches you in many ways. The writer, Shibani Bathija has evokes emotions and humor from culture and people, with strong overtones of racism and love. I just love this, "...all people are the same, their only difference is 'good' and 'bad'..." And I fully agree!

Hmmm....Najib and Tun M and all you racist people out there MUST watch this movie!

Although Shahrukh may not have acted his best, (hard to imagine a handsome hunk with Asperger's syndrome) I still like him. Kajol is so pretty, such a perfect match! Don't you just love pretty things!

I haven't been following figure skating as I used to few years ago. That's because Edmund has more or less stopped skating due to interest diversification, time and studies. I've lost touch with most of the events for like since the last winter Olympics in Torino?

Didn't know who are the upcoming skaters and who are the reigning champs. But with the ongoing Winter Olympics Games now showing on Astro it has brought me back to those time when I used to be quite crazy about figure skating. Well I have to admit that I went a bit over board those days! Okay those were the days!

Coming back to present, I must say that things are getting more and more interesting with this sport. Looking at the young girls doing their spins and jumps so effortlessly and confidently, I would say the impossible are not so impossible anymore. Those days doing a double axel or a combination jump of triple double is considered outstanding. Triple axel and quadruple jumps seem IMPOSSIBLE?

Oh, for those of you who are not figure skating fans, an axel jump means to jump up and make a full rotation on air before you land on the ice on one foot. So a double axel means two rotation on air, triple is three and so on.

Now these girls are doing triple axel, and a combination jump of triple triple! And they make them look so easy. Out of this world! I'm sure very soon they will be doing quads jumps just like the men and that will push the men to doing combination of quads and quads? Wow! I can't wait to see that!

So, dreaming the impossible dream is not a crazy thing to do after all. My hats off to all the winners who have done so well and those who dare to dream the impossible dream....

Chinese New Year is a time we, Chinese people celebrate the arrival of spring...the beginning of a new cycle of another year.

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Happy Tiger Year!

Firstly, I'd like to wish everyone who celebrates this New Year of The Tiger a year filled with all the best things you'd wished for! And of course that goes to me as well!

This year is almost the same as any other year except that I need not "Balik Kampung" (going back hometown). My mom came to KL for a change.

And...what else? An extremely high possibility of committing one of the seven sins, 'gluttony' (as my friend quoted...). Yes, FOOD MARATHON! Starting from New Year's eve till....I wonder if there's an end?

I tried something different this new year eve, I prepared the 'Poon Choi' or 'Pen Chai'. Direct translation means 'Basin Vegetable'. Some called it 'The Big Bowl Feast' or 'Basin Feast'.

Okay, a little bit about 'Poon Choi'...it's a traditional Hakka dish served on special occasions and festive season. It's a combination of several dishes (about 6 - 8 types of food, could be more) being cooked separately and then laid out layer by layer in a single bowl. That's why you need a very big bowl! Right, if you want to know more read here.

There is no actual ingredient or way to prepare Poon Choi. Just follow your own needs and creation.

And this is Poon Choi my way...

First layer
- Chinese cabbage stir fried with dried shrimp.

2nd layer

- Braised gluten puff with roast pork

3rd layer

- smooth steamed white chicken

4th layer
- roast duck

5th layer

- braised black moss (fatt choy) with dried oysters and scallops

6th layer
- braised chinese mushroom in special sauce.

7th layer

- prawns, steamed with ginger, garlic and chinese wine.

8th layer

- the main ingredient of the day, abalone!
braised in special sauce.

This is the final outlook of my 8 layers Poon Choi (Fatt Choy Poon Choi)!

And how you eat it? Just dig in and enjoy!

The Golden Globe Award 2010.

I watched it recently and as usual I was dazzled by all the beautiful people and their gorgeous attires. It is event like this that almost always send a girl dreaming away!

All those dashing guys...young and old. The young ones are so handsome and fit while the older ones are just so MAN! Damn men!

Not to mention the gorgeous lovely ladies and their gowns...fuyoh! So beautiful, sexy, hot even as they aged so elegantly! My my, how did they do that?

Aaww...that's all folks! If you want to see more, google it? But did you notice something? The ladies? They are so elegantly dressed but none of them (above) has got a necklace on? In fact most of the stars did not have one on during that evening. Earrings, rings, bangles, bracelets but not necklaces. Has it got anything to do with fashion? Is it the in-thing? Or does wearing a necklace make your dress look any less? And all these years I thought jewellery and accessories are a must to go with your lovely dress, no? Or did I miss something?

Read this article by Muaz Omar and I'm extremely happy that we have someone with clear thoughts after all.

I guessed I was drown in too many silly senseless statements by our political leaders that I thought we're doomed! Thus I kind of stopped discussing 'issues' anymore. Thinking whatever we say, our opinions as the people of this country does not carry any weight at all! And when we said something not to their likings, we're violating the law while they can say things that causes war and be termed as their rights!

After reading Muaz's article I realised that if we stopped voicing ourselves, no one will know what we have in mind. So, to save ourselves, our beloved country, we must continue to voice out? Hoping someone out there is listening?

Let us, all Malaysians, unite and stop listening to those manipulative politicians who try to tear us apart for their own selfish benefits! They are those human species whom I am ashamed to be related to.

Let's create a better place for our future generations! Muaz, I totally agree with you! "You are the problem, Dr M" ...very well said!

If you have watched this movie, then you would know what I'm talking about.

This movie has proven one thing...that there are maniacs out there who use their power to manipulated naive innocent people to do things that are beyond imagination...to kill!
Sadly these maniacs are from our species...Homo sapiens. Yes, human! Sad!

They are nothing but selfish, cruel, power crazy and greedy. And it irks me to believe that some of these maniacs are high ranking, influential people.

This movie has shown it all, our human nature...from bad to the worst and from good to....er noble? So, are we learning something here?

Well, kind of reminded me of the song from Pocahontas, Colors of The Wind...

....you think you own whatever land you land on,
the Earth is just a dead thing you can claim...

....you think the only people who are people,
are the people who look and think like you...

If you haven't watch this movie, I suggest you go watch it. It's a very entertaining movie, just remember to empty your bladder before the movie starts. 2 hours 41 minutes is quite a long wait and you wouldn't want to miss any part of it.

Someone Ought To Stop Me!

I've been doing nothing lately except eat, eat and eat! I think someone ought to stop me, fast!

Next week when school reopens, I hope everything will go back to normal. Holidays over, yes? And since it is going to be over soon...I invited Sis Vera over for dinner today.

Sis Vera is someone dear to me. She is like a sister to me although we are not biologically related in any way. I remember my childhood years with her around me caring, sharing and pampering me like I'm her very own little sister.

Fond memories of her never fails to bring a smile on my face. The bedtime stories or even daytime stories, the stroll up the hills, the french toast she made, the songs we sang, the games we played.

Then she had to leave to pursue her dream, something that I may not understand but she seems happy. That's most important, being happy! I haven't seen her since...at least not after more than 10 years! And that's only like once every two or three years.

Now that I had the chance, I definitely want to spend a little more time with her. What is better than inviting her over for dinner. And another good reason for me to EAT!

New Year Get Together, another reason to eat. Of course I mean eat a lot!

How not to get fat? I'm quite lucky to be one of the lucky ones who has a higher metabolic rate than most common people. Meaning...fat retention is low? Well, not that I cannot put on weight, just slow. I wonder how many years more I can stay this lucky?

Thanks to my Lucky Star I ate a lot (again) tonight. Have a few friends over to my place. We cooked up some food, some just bought some and....fiesta!

Went to Bandar Puteri Puchong the other day for lunch. Parked my car, came out and started looking for a parking ticket machine.

Couldn't find one within 100m radius from my car. Hmm...is this place exempted from parking fees?

Shouldn't be, I thought. But then why no ticket machines? Coupons? Since when?

As I was about to walk away, I spotted it! Aiya! Right in front me, less than 10m away. How come I could not see it at first? My eyes!

Before I go for an eye checkup, can you tell me if you can see it at the first glance?

The Brave Agave

My Agave is flowering and soon it will die...(sob sob) Why?

Well, there's nothing I can do. That's its characteristic. Here is a short write up about this plant. Please read only if you're interested.

The genus Agave occurs natively in arid and tropical regions from the southern USA to northern South America, and throughout the Caribbean. More than 200 species are recognized.

It is a common misconception that agaves are cacti. Agaves are closely related to the lily and amaryllis families, and are not related to cacti. The name agave is derived from the Greek and means "noble," referring to their tall flower stalk. Some agave species have stalks reaching 40 feet. Agaves have many common and native local names including maguey, mescal, lechuguilla, amole and Century Plant. Agaves are rosette plants that live for several to many years before flowering. Each rosette will flower only once, then die. The English common name, Century Plant, is based on the mistaken belief that the plants grow for 100 years before blooming. In fact, some of the smaller species flower when only 3 to 4 years old. The larger species may live for 40 to 50 years before flowering.

Compare its size and height with mine. I'm about 5'3"

So, after 5 years my beloved plant has reached its final destination! Soon flowers will bloom from this long tough stalk and out come its offspring. And once these offspring are fully develop the brave mother plant will wither and die. This is a case of happy (offspring) and sad (mother plant). May she rest in peace!

Why am I telling you all these? Yes, the actual purpose is...

...I'm putting up these offspring for adoption! I understand that agave plants can produce dozens of offspring each time! So I'm sure I will end up with many unwanted babies. Therefor if anyone out there who would like to adopt them please contact me.

They are very easy to be cared for. They are hardy and need very little attention which means no pruning or trimming. Just sunshine, a little water and a little fertilizer every now and then. They are great outdoor plants and make good ornaments for rock garden or desert garden.

Want one? I'll be more than happy to present them to you! But you need to come over to take it home yourself.

Just promise you won't laugh, okay? It was my first time performing live, in front of 600 over people. Can you imagine how I felt at that moment? I have to down a few beers before and after the event! Before, to get rid of my nervousness and after, to get rid of my embarrassment!

But after doing this once, I wish I can do it again. Maybe could be better the next time around? Or can it be so bad that you'll shout, "Oh no! Not again!"

Whole turkey, cooked to near perfection (can be better). Browned on the outside, juicy inside! The best turkey I've tasted so far! Thanks to AFC channel and Jamie Oliver for the cooking tips and recipe.

Cooked and carved...

I made this cute little parcel from the leftover stuffing.
Shaped stuffing into a ball, wrapped with bacon and insert a sprig of rosemary into ball. Baked in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Another idea from 'Saturday Cooks'. Where else? AFC Channel Astro!

This is like pot roast. Yes, it was cooked using the leftover roast leg of lamb yesterday.

Christmas Eve Dinner

Yes, it's Christmas today. Had dinner with my family last night. Enjoyed it and hoped everyone had a wonderful Christmas eve dinner too!

This is the first time I'm making tomato soup and roast lamb. I think not bad for a first timer...

Not much dishes but more than enough for the 4 of us.

Of course Christmas Eve also marks a very important date. The birth date of Edmund! He's no longer a boy now as this is the day he steps into adulthood. Yes, he's 18! Officially an adult! Now he may do most of the things that an adult does, not that he need to do it but legally he is allowed to! Like buying cigarettes, drinking alcoholic drinks etc. etc. etc. Urgh! I hate to imagine!

Well I wished him all the best in his future and hope that he won't abuse the rights that he has obtained for now.

Happy Birthday Edmund! Be good yah?

The Cove

I watched this movie and felt a little disturbed by it. In fact it's a mixture of sadness, anger and outraged. This is a more like a documentary made by Richard O'Barry or Ric O'Barry. If you do not know who is this guy (neither do I at first), maybe the word 'Flipper' will ring a bell? Yes, he's the trainer who trained the dolphins in the TV series Flipper. Here's a little bit more information about him...

Richard (Ric) O'Barry (born c. 1941) was first recognized in the 1960s for capturing and training the five dolphins that were used in the well-known TV series Flipper. Soon after one of the Flipper dolphins died in O'Barry’s arms he made a radical transition from training dolphins in captivity to assertively combating the captivity industry. O'Barry is currently featured in The Cove, a film that uses covert techniques to expose the yearly dolphin drive hunting that goes on in Taiji, Japan.

Coming back to the movie, The Cove...

...begins in Taiji, Japan, a town that appears to be devoted to the wonders and mysteries of the sleek, playful dolphins and whales that swim off their coast.

But in actual fact, tens of thousands of dolphins are being killed here every year and the worst part is they (the fishermen) did it heartlessly?

If we kill for survival, I can understand but killing these dolphins is clearly not for this reason! They captured the dolphins and chose few to be sold to marine parks for show purposes. The price of these show dolphins can fetch up to US150,000 each! Okay, I understand this part. They did it for money but what about the rest of the captured dolphins? Why do they have to kill them? Why can't they just set them free?

The dolphin meat cannot be consumed by human because the level of mercury in their meat is very high! Then came the outraged part, they fed these highly contaminated meat to their young children! What in the world is wrong with their brains!

Please watch this movie and tell me if I was wrong. If you are not a bit saddened or angered by it please let me know? For the time being just these photos to give you a little kick?

The colour of the sea water turned red from the blood of the dolphins!

I wish the killings will stop! Not only the dolphins but for sharks too!

For those of you who love sharks' fins soup or dishes please refrain from ticking them on your dinner menu. I know sharks are not so lovable or even likable but cutting off their fins and throwing them back into the sea to die slowly...? That's cruel!

And for your information, sharks' fins has no taste on its own and have no nutritional value of any kind! There are many other nice delicious food out there right? Tradition? If a tradition is not right, we should just change it? And this has happened before, many times. Like the tradition of leg binding for little girls in our Chinese culture? Well? Let's do it?

And I have to shout this out, Stanley and his family just did it. They omitted sharks' fins soup from their dinner menu (wedding dinner) and the announcement was made as such...

...for your information, the organising families have asked to inform you that as a small part of their contribution on shark conservation, no sharks' fins will be served this evening. The families asked for your understanding.

This could be a very small step to a big change to our society's mindset! To Stanley and his family, I SALUTE U!

Happy Winter Solstice Festival!

Every year on December 22nd, the Chinese community will celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival. So why do we celebrate this day? Try reading this...

The Winter Solstice Festival or The Extreme of Winter is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Chinese and other East Asians during the dongzhi solar term on or around December 21 when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest; i.e., on the first day of the dongzhi solar term. The origins of this festival can be traced back to the yin and yang philosophy of balance and harmony in the cosmos. After this celebration, there will be days with longer daylight hours and therefore an increase in positive energy flowing in. The philosophical significance of this is symbolized by the I Ching hexagram fù (復, "Returning").

Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get togethers (especially in the southern parts of China and in Chinese communities overseas) is the making and eating of Tangyuan (湯圓, as pronounced in Cantonese; Mandarin Pinyin: Tāng Yuán) or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion.

In Korea, similar balls of glutinous rice (Korean: 새알심) (English pronunciation:Saealsim), is prepared in a traditional porridge made with sweet red bean (Korean: 팥죽)(English pronunciation:Patjook). Patjook was believed to have a special power and sprayed around houses on winter solstice to repel sinister spirits. This practice was based on a traditional folk tale, in which the ghost of a man that used to hate patjook comes haunting innocent villagers on the winter solstice.

So? We do not have winter here but we celebrate it anyway. Well at least I do, let this be a family tradition. Making 'tong yuen' and have dinner together every year on this day. And I hope this will continue for many many years and then pass down to the next generation and so on!

Actually it's quite fun. Tong yuen is so easy to make, want to try? You can say it's a 'family bonding' time?

The ingredients: Glutinous Rice Flour, your favourite food colouring, water.

1. Add water to flour and knead well to form into dough.
2. Divide dough to 3 parts (depending on the number of colours you use)
3. Knead well into dough

Roll out dough into long strips and divide dough into small portions.
That will be the size of your rice balls!
Roll dough into sphere shape. Set aside.

The syrup: Boil old ginger and pandan leaves with water. About 15 minutes.

Add sugar to taste. Take out the pandan leaves and ginger.

In another pot, bring water to a boil. Drop your rice balls into it.

Once your rice balls are cooked they will float to the surface.
Scoop them up and put them into the syrup.

Taa'da! Your tong yuen is ready to be eaten!

Tualang Prawn Trip

In search of fresh river prawns...

Went to Tg. Tualang the other day. Just to taste the well-known fresh river prawns available there. My friend Angie hailed from this small town and she happened to be there that day. So off we go to Tg. Tualang which is about 2 1/2 hours drive from KL.

For those who do not know where is this town, it is somewhere between Kampar and Teluk Intan. Exit at Tapah and drive towards Kampar/Ipoh. Just as you are about to reach Kampar, you will see a Petronas station on your left. Immediately after the station there's a traffic light, turn left at that traffic light. The road sign shows that's the road to Teluk Intan. Drive along this road and watch out for the road sign that says Tronoh Mines/Tg.Tualang turn right. Yes, turn right and you'll come onto this small and winding road. You have to be careful of cattle here as they roam the road freely. Keep going until you reach the end of the road, turn right and drive for another 10 minutes and you'll reach Tg. Tualang. You'll see a post office on your left, turn left at that turning and then right. Whoala! All the seafood restaurants to feast your hunger pangs! On your left is the market where they sell all sorts of homemade traditional food. But their only opened during daytime.

Of course I was lucky to have Angie guiding the way. It was drizzling the whole time but we're lucky to reach that place just before the heavy downpour. Angie took us to this restaurant that belong's to her friend's sister. 'Restaurant Thong Lok' .

Since she's more familiar with this place, we let her make the call.

And we ended up with....

medium sized, steamed...with ginger and chinese wine

(close-up)...really spongy and juicy sweet from its natural flavour!

River Patin fish, steamed...firm yet smooth...

Octopus blanched with fern and topped with satay sauce...nice

The ferns can cause numbness of the tongue or lips to some people who are allergy to its saps!

All these 6 dishes for just RM170. There are 10 of us at the table! The best part is we don't have to pay! Angie was really generous to take up the bill! What more can I say! Thank you!

It was a nice dinner but I'm not sure if it was just me, for some reason I wasn't satisfied. I was craving for more prawns! OMG! Fat...! But I was weak, I had to have mooore...!?

Yes, we walked down the street and found this restaurant. Recommended by Jason, the food guy from AFC Astro.

We didn't hesitate, we went into the restaurant and ordered these....

medium size, pan fried with salted egg...yumm

Huge size, steamed with ginger and chinese wine...heavenly!

The roe oozing out of the head! Mmmm...

Just for comparison...the huge prawn is about 4x the size of the medium prawn.

And the price...RM67 for 4 huge prawns (900gms) and medium prawns RM35 (1 Kg)

After this meal, I felt fully satisfied. Tg. Tualang fresh river prawns have lived up to its name. Worth my trip there!

It has been more than 2 months since I last updated my blog? For those who thought I might be dead..., sorry to disappoint you. Sometimes things just didn't turn out as you wanted huh?

Well my brains have gone for a vacation and thus I've been in a state of 'brainlessness' for awhile? Lame! After the long break, this blog could be a bit too long to handle. Hope you don't doze off somewhere in between.

Coming back to the title of this blog, the months of November and December seem good for those who wish to get married this year. That's because according to the Chinese Calendar, next year is year of the tiger and is not that good for tying the knot? Is this true? I'm not sure, let me know if you do? It makes me think what would happened to the bridal industries if it is true.

Anyway I attended 4 weddings this month! And yes, I'm going to share these wonderful moments with you because...I want to!

I was at a wholesale store the other day and I got some wall stickers (to be sold in one of my stalls actually). But I got so carried away that I wanted them on my walls too!

So I took them home and in the middle of the night and with Elayne's help we put them up on my room's wall.

LoL! This is crazy! This is so uncool! But what the hack I like it! Not the stickers and not the new look of the wall...I just like putting them up! Nothing better to do!

Edmund came back the next day and said, "OMG! This is crazy!" Oh yes, who cares? This is one way to suppress my craziness, I guessed!

Fighting over food if you don't have enough of it, I can understand.

Food fight in a party or event or festival where you have abundance of them to waste, I can understand.

But fighting to claim ownership of the origin of food? I don't understand.

Food or special dishes have come a long long way and I think to trace it's roots will not be easy and neither can it be the whole 'truth'. We have such mixed culture in this world and food fusion is so common that the originality of the dishes has been distorted since who knows when?

I cannot understand. Why is so important to claim ownership to the name of a dish? Well okay, bak kut teh is yours, char kuey teow is mine, nasi lemak is hers....so? I like them all and I just want to eat them! Who cares who created it? Even if we know, is it important? Can't we just share the recipe so that everyone can enjoy nice delicious food?

So what if they are not originated from our country, we still get to eat them! They are still here! The recipes are amongst us! Who can take that away from us? And I think it will stay here for as long as we and our future generations are here! Why the fuss?!

Please do not start another issue like 'Penang'...tiring lah.

Grooming a dog.

It takes a lot of patience and love to care for a pet. And a lot of commitment too! Not only you should take good care of its diet, health and emotional needs, you also need to groom it. Most important of all these things don't come cheap! Especially the grooming part.

If you see all those 'Quick Cut' or 'Express Cut' deals out there that charges between RM12 to RM15 for a quick hair cut, they are for human only. You can NEVER find such good deals for pets!

When a hair cut plus hair wash and blow dry for you may cost only RM35, you may not find the same for your pet! For a normal cut and wash for your dog may cost you around RM60. A full groom may cost you RM80 onwards depending on the breed of your dog. I don't have a cat, so I'm not sure about the cost for cats. I guessed should be around the same? I'm not saying that the professional groomers are over charging but to me it is just expensive.

Well since the cost of grooming is expensive (my opinion), I normally do it myself. And of course I won't be grooming it like the professional groomers do. I usually cut the fur as short as possible and there will be no styling involved. So my dog would look like an ordinary dog.

But today, I feel a little adventurous and I tried to groom my schnauzer to look like a schnauzer.
And the result? See for yourself and be my judge...?

MAS Online Booking

Have you ever try buying an air ticket from MAS airline (Malaysia Airline System) via the internet? They called it their E-Ticketing system. The last time I read in the paper (not sure how long ago) you need to collect your e-ticket from their MAS ticket office. Sounds strange right? If we are to go all the way to their ticketing office, why border doing it online? Just go straight to any ticketing office and buy your ticket there, right?

Of course I don't believe this is happening. Especially with MAS, our country's pioneer official airline services. Supposedly the best airline system in this country! Never happen to me before when I buy my air ticket from Air Asia Online services. I guessed must be some miscommunication somewhere along the line? And I didn't border to find out the truth either until...

...my colleague asked me to help her buy an air ticket for her to go to Myanmar. I gladly agreed! How hard can it be? I can do it via the net, right?

I went onto the Air Asia website but found out that they do not have flights to Myanmar. Well the next choice will be MAS and yes, they do have online ticketing services. Happily I signed up to their online services and the rest is a breeze!

I paid via credit card and I got the e-ticket printed out and that's it! No sweat! At least that's what I thought until I see this remark on the e-ticket...!

For security reasons, the following are required upon check-in or ticket reissuance, failure to produce these documents may result in denied boarding:
1. Photocopy or actual credit card used for the online purchase(s). 2. Photocopy or original photo ID of the credit card holder.

Huh? What's this? I need to make copies of my id and credit card for my colleague? So that she could board the plane? What nonsense is this? What if these photocopies fall into the wrong hands? Credit card fraud syndicates? Why do they need photocopies of the purchaser's id and credit card? The bank has already confirmed the transaction, didn't they? What security reasons? Is there a miscommunication somewhere?

I called MAS Customer Care Centre and they confirmed it, unfortunately. But I do not want to give away copies of my id, so how? Okay...they have a solution. I need to get my e-ticket endorsed by their officer, meaning? I have to take my e-ticket to any MAS ticketing office personally with my id card and credit card to get it verified and endorsed! Or else, my colleague cannot board the plane!

What rubbish! What online ticket purchase service is MAS promoting when the purchaser needs to make a trip to their ticketing office? Does it matter if the ticket purchased is for the purchaser himself or not? No such thing with Air Asia, don't know about other airlines (let me know if you know of any?).

A total waste of my time! The morale of this story? Do not buy your air ticket online from MAS if it is not for yourself? MAS, you are not flying inline with cyber age! Sigh...

Nothing new, nothing improved except more buildings, more roads, more cars, more tolls, more traffic jams, more thefts...

...sigh, when can we see some changes for the better?

1Malaysia? But I see that we are more divided now than before, aren't we? Because now we are not supposed to sell beer in a Malay-majority area, not supposed to have Hindu temples in Muslim-majority area, maybe the same goes to Chinese temples and churches, at least not within a 5Km radius? Those non-muslims who stay in muslim-majority area will have to walk 5-6 Km to their temple to pray, if there's one! So are they not suggesting that all Muslims should stay in one area, Buddhists another area, Hindus another and Christians another?

So called 1Malaysia? I wonder if these people know what they are doing, in the name of their holy religion? And yes, we have to be sensitive to their feelings, needs and religion. Ours? Does not matter!

These films not only deal with socio-political issues in Malaysia, they also feature some of the best-known faces in the country, including actors, musicians and top political leaders. You may think of them as funky little films made by 15 Malaysian voices for the people of Malaysia.

15 short movies made by Malaysians. Local producers, directors, casts, crews. I think it's cool!

Watch them, they only release one movie at a time on specific dates. So you have to patient. I've viewed a few. Funny, touching, racist...all about us as Malaysians! I like some and couldn't understand some. Well I guessed I'm not smart enough to understand?

What An Insenstive Act!

The group of Malay-Muslim protesters claiming to be residents of Section 23 had dumped the severed cow's head outside the Selangor state secretariat and threatened bloodshed unless the state government stopped the construction of a Hindu Temple.

The "residents" said that the construction of a Hindu temple in a 90 per cent Malay- Muslim neighbourhood was insensitive because activities there would disrupt their lives.

“I challenge YB Khalid, YB Rodziah and Xavier Jeyakumar to go on with the temple construction. I guarantee bloodshed and racial tension will happen if this goes on, and the state will be held responsible,” shouted Ibrahim Haji Sabri amid strong chants of “Allahu Akbar!” as he referred to Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and his state administration.

This is outrages! How can anyone who cries to the world that people should treat his religion with utmost sensitivity acts so insensitively!

Huh??? So, others have to be sensitive to your feelings and needs while you can treat others like dirt? Wey! Something is very wrong here!

This must be stopped immediately before anything worse happen! Yes, Mr PM for once I agree with you!

Eating from a toilet bowl?

How would you like your food to be served in a toilet bowl?

Yes, this restaurant that I passed by the other day while I was in Queensbay Mall Penang serves its food in toilet bowls and bath tubs. Miniature ones that is. This is some kind of a new concept called the Toilet Bowl Concept Restaurant.

The T-Bowl (Toilet Bowl) Restaurant was established on 18th Dec 2008 at 3rd floor of QueensBay Mall. The restaurant was originated by the founder, Samuel while he was sitting on a toilet bowl one day. All of a sudden he has an idea of eating while sitting in the toilet bowl just as in the movie directed by Anthony Wong a few years ago. Furthermore, he would like to open a special concept restaurant in Penang, hence inspired him to fuse this concept into the food and beverage industries. This restaurant has designed base on the bathroom concept; where the toilet bowl used as seat, basin as dining table, mini toilet bowls as food bowl. Beside that, this restaurant has 3 cute and meaningful main theme characters call the Tbros (Toilet Brothers) such as the toilet bowl, stool and shower. There are varieties of food here range from Japan, Korean, Western, Hong Kong till oriental style.

Kinda cool...try it? Nope, not yet. Don't know if I want to, maybe I would but not now.

Our DPM states that the cabinet is studying to remove the column requiring a person to provide information on his race in official forms.

This is in line with our PM's 1Malaysia concept. The decision was immediately welcomed by people from all communities! Wow! Impressive! But why?

Datuk Samy said this would make everybody feel "more Malaysian".

UMNO Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin said it would "put away whatever racial barriers there may be".

Johor MP Datuk Nur Jazlan said "it will ensure there is no bias when people deal with government staff as in the past, I received complaints that Malay Civil servants tended to put documents from non-Malays last". Yes! You realised!

But wait, is this important? Does stating your race and not stating your race make any difference here? Please tell me you cannot tell the race of the following names :

Roses without thorns.

We often hear people saying. ...'thorn among roses' and I'm sure we all know what that means. So I'm not going to elaborate.

Then one of my friends told me that there are roses which do not have thorns. Sounds interesting. I've seen and planted roses and I've never come across one that has no thorns. Well, is it true or false?

Before I continue there's one thing that I want to straighten out...those thorns? They are not thorns! It is a common error to refer to roses having thorns. Thorns are modified branches or stems, whereas these sharp protrusions on a rose are modified epidermal tissues...called 'prickles'. Got that?

Okay coming back to whether there are roses which do not have thorns? Eh no, prickles! The answer...'Yes', there are a few species of roses which only have vestigial prickles that have no points.

Prickle-free roses are particularly appropriate for elderly gardeners, young children and people susceptible to injury due to an impaired lymphatic system . Here are three top varieties of roses without prickles.

The Smooth Buttercup. The Smooth Buttercup is a compact floribunda (a class of modern roses in which the blooms are in clusters) that produces clusters of beautiful bright golden yellow blossoms.

The Banksiae Rose (Rosa banksiae lutea) is another variety that has been popular with gardeners since it was introduced in Kew Gardens almost two centuries ago.

G n G...Yes or No?

G n G? Gated and Guarded!

Yes, this was in the newspapers few days ago. For those of you who still have no idea what I'm saying...

A gated community in Malaysia is generally focused on the need for a safer community with secured and guarded surroundings. In our residential development sector we see advertisements almost daily, exhorting the virtues of gated and guarded housing schemes or gated community as they are commonly called as a new privatized way of life. Property developers today are reinvesting themselves in response to needs of an increasingly affluent population, keeping pace with the rapid changes in trends and consumer preferences in order to thrive. What has happened is that property developers have managed to creating a safe community through the provisions of security and exclusivity as part of a community’s lifestyle. Although some housing schemes are not categorised as gated and guarded schemes, residents have nevertheless taken steps to restrict access of the general by setting up guard posts with the hope of preventing and reducing crime in the area. Usually some form of physical barrier surrounds the boundaries to the housing estate where residents employ private security to provide security services. This often involves an attempt to restrict or regulate public spaces privately by erection of barriers on public needs, guardhouses, etc.

Sounds okay to me. A safer place to live in, you can sleep better at night and you can leave your house to go on a vacation without having to worry much about break in. Perfect? No?

No, because some people in the neighbourhood just couldn't agree with this. They do not want to live in a gated place. When they bought their houses there 20 years ago everything was perfectly fine. Then 20 years later some new folks moved in to their neighbourhood and somehow they got burglarised or robbed and then they freaked out and they introduced this G n G scheme to their neighbours. With this scheme every household has to chip in a sum to pay for the security package like cctv, setting up of barriers, fences, guards' wages etc. Some agreed, some don't. Or most agree and a few don't? Then how? Yes or no?

I think if you have been robbed before or if your house has been burglarised before then you might say "yes". Why "no"? Could be the money. Some folks who have stayed there for more than 20 years could be retired by now and they might not be able to afford paying thousands a year. Maybe they have no income at all? Or maybe they thought they have nothing valuable in their house and therefore no one would want to rob them? So, they felt that they do not need this G n G thing.

Okay, they did it anyway because majority say "yes". The majority are paying and those who oppose did not pay. Then problem arise, someone would say "Why do we need to pay and they don't and yet they get to enjoy the security provided?" Hmmm....unfair? Then car stickers were introduced and those who pay gets them. When the guards see the stickers, no question asked. Those without stickers will have to be screened and filtered with many questions. And of course this goes to those house owners who didn't pay. This is where the inconvenience comes in for them and they felt they are being penalised! And they got angry and somehow things turn ugly? Sigh....

I think this problem will continue and there is no good solution as long as someone still oppose to the idea. I guess you just have to tolerate? If you can afford it, for the safety of your loved ones, why not? If others are not in line with your thoughts, let it be. It's not important. But try to compromise? Try also not to cause any inconvenience to others? Peace!

What's wrong with having white hair?

I remembered someone told me if you pluck one piece of white hair from your scalp, 3 more pieces will grow! Wow! What if I pluck the black ones instead? So, I'll have a lot more hair in no time! Then we'll have no worry of losing our hair because the more we pluck, the more they'll grow! 3x!

Rubbish! Kill me! I cannot take this! Eh no! It'll only happen if you pluck the white ones, not the black ones! Huh? No, I'm not going to take this further. Totally rubbish!

But wait? What's wrong with having grey or white hair? Because people associate white hair with age? Old age?

As we grow older the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells in a hair follicle, that strand of hair will no longer contain as much melanin and will become a more transparent color - like grey, silver, or white - as it grows. As people continue to get older, fewer pigment cells will be around to produce melanin. Eventually, the hair will look completely grey. So, white hair means "old age"?

No, some people will loose their hair colour earlier than others. Even as early as in their teens. It all depends on your genes.

But whatever it is I think it's better to have a full head of white/grey hair than to have no hair! Unless you are blessed with such pretty features that make you look good even if you're bald!

Well I think black hair, white hair, gray hair or no hair, it's just whether you look good or not.

After having listened to all the political squabbles, senseless remarks, unreasonable demands and flip flop decisions of our leaders. And news of more death caused by the A H1N1 virus, death of irreplaceable legends, death of people whom I know...I felt that I have been driven into a state of unexplainable....???

Sadness? Anger? Disappointment? Emptiness? I don't know. That's why it's unexplainable?

But as I walked through my garden a while ago, I felt a little calmness. Looking at the greens and pretty flowers blooming, gives a slight lift to my spirit. Yes, life goes on! Happiness restored, for now!

Ban Roast Pork?

I love roast pork! And I hope they won't ban the sales of roast pork in malay-majority areas!
Yes, because that's where I stay!

Be sensitive to thy neighbours, they say? Be sensitive to their religion? Okay...so who's going to be sensitive to mine? My taste buds??? Maybe I am the not so important minority?

So, I must 'kow tow' to the majorities. Darn!

Well then, I'll make my own roast pork! Not too hard, but not so easy either. But it turns out okay okay. I loved the stabbing part (where you stab the skin to make it tender and pop like crackers when you roast it later) Can let go some steam too!

Oops! A small portion is burnt! And some part are done not as they should be? Otherwise the taste is quite good. This is my first shot at this dish, I'll try again. Hopefully it will turn out better.

Taxi! Taxi!

I'm not a common user of the taxi's services in our country. Of course I've used them before but I kind of try my best not to...why?

No, I didn't quarrel with any taxi drivers. I just do not like to bargain with them. Bargain? Well yes, you have to! Everyone knows that! Here are the few steps you take when you need to use their services.

Step 1 : You flagged down a taxi. If he stops...you do not jump right in.

Step 2 : Ask the driver if he wishes to go to your destination. If he say "No", back to step 1!
If the answer is "Yes", proceed to step 3.

Step 3 : Ask him if he is using the taxi meter? If "Yes", it's your LUCKY day! Hop on and enjoy your ride! If "No", proceed to step 4.

Step 4 : Ask him politely how much is he charging for your trip? If you think the fare is reasonable hop on. If not, let him know politely how much you are willing to pay. If you can strike a deal with him, bravo! If not, back to step 1!

At any point do not argue with them, not worth your time and energy. Might spoil your day too because 8 out of 10 taxi drivers have the same attitude problem. The other 2 are the rare species.

Am I glad that I do not have to go through this everyday like some of you. And our government said that they cannot do much about this because these taxi drivers are somehow quite stubborn and there are too many taxis around, it's hard to keep track on all of them? I really do not agree.

I've been to other countries (well I'm a bit lucky lah) and I've never encounter such problem with their taxi services. Singapore - uses the meter all the time, just add a nominal fee if it's after 11pm. You just have to tell them where you want to go, no question asked. Unless they do not know where's the place. Thailand - same. Indonesia - same. China - same.

Please tell me if these countries are smaller than Malaysia? Any difficulties to keep track on their drivers by their authorities? How do they do that? Why they can and we cannot?

Sigh...I think our authorities should look into this situation seriously and do something about it. It's not cannot, it's whether you want or not? There's always a solution.

I think Utusan Malaysia has published one of the most race discrimination article in my time! The person who wrote the article should be taken away under ISA! He is causing hatred among our multiracial community with the intention to create disharmony in our country. Isn't this a threat to national security? Why is the writer not arrested? Why is the paper not banned? Is it because it's related to UMNO?!

The whole article is about Malays' Special Rights being taken away from them. Their power is being retracted, their land is being invaded by other races, the Chinese, Indians and PAS! I wondered, since when has PAS become a race?

The writer condemned the Malays who took part in the recent anti-ISA rally. He called them cowards? He said they are stupid because they allow themselves to be ridden as horses? The riders are the non-Malays, of course! Tell me this is not creating disharmony among races?

He wrote about how the other races are using the Malays to achieve equal rights, fair treatment and democracy. I think this writer is so 'Kiasu'. Why is he so worried that his special rights are being taken away? This means he is not ready to compete fairly with his counterpart to excel? He needs the government to help him? Put him in front, 50m ahead of others?

Sorry bro! You are so wrong! What these Malays stand up for on Saturday is not for their own special rights. It is for the rights of every single person in our country. It's a decision in unison to protest against the use of the Internal Security Act! Protesting against power abuse! This is a fight for OUR rights, for every single face on our land! Irregardless of what colour they are!

To me this is not an act of cowards...this is a brave move! And please...do not compare yourself with them. You are no where near!

If this is not unity, tell me what is?

I guessed now I know what these pro-ISA people wants. And now I know that they think that by defending the existence of the Internal Security Act in our country, their special rights as 'Bumiputra' will be protected. So, in their minds this act is passed to protect them? From what? From who? The Government? The non-Malays?

And what special rights? Only for the Malays? Isn't this racial discrimination? What message are you guys trying to send out? Are you trying to stir something up here? And our PM is talking about creating 1Malaysia? What 1Malaysia?

Most importantly, what does ISA got to do with Malays' Special Rights? It is how our government uses this special act to over ride the rights of its citizen! No matter what race you are. It's being used by the ones in power to shut the people's mouths. Which means your mouth too! Got that?

So mind you pro-ISA guys, this ISA is not here to protect your so called special rights! Please, get your facts right before you put your future in the dark! Do not follow blindly!

One week after fake news of the death of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino was circulated via sms, the real thing kicked in on 1st August. She passed away after battling with colon cancer for more than a year. She carried the torch of democracy for the Filipinos and let's hope that this torch will lit forever in the hearts of not only the Filipinos but all pro-democracy people. May she rest in peace. Sad...

And I learn today that someone I know, passed away yesterday. Although we are not friends but I know her son who was a figure skater years back. He was such a charming boy and has never failed to acknowledge me when we were at the ice rink. Losing your mum at such a young age is really heart breaking. Hope he and his sister would be strong. May his mum rest in peace. Sad...

A 10 year old girl from Perak died of A H1N1, making it the 5th in our country. And she didn't seek medical attention too late. It's the medical attention that she got were too late to save her! Is this her fault or her family's fault? Who are you to blame now? The medical officers who took her situation lightly or just push the responsibilities aside by saying, "Oh, we thought it was a just common flu and we did follow medical procedures, she didn't show any signs of .... and we did treat her accordingly....and..blah blah blah... Sigh...! My heart goes out to her family. Sad...

Why does our government has to act like big bullies? Why are they arresting peaceful demonstrators who are just trying to have their rights heard? Why are they acting like as though there was a riot going on? Why are they arresting children, detaining them in jail and denying them food? Why are they denying us of our rights as a citizen of a democratic country?

If you got stuck in a traffic congestion for a few hours that's caused by police roadblocks, you'd probably curse them till the end of time!

Yes! #@*%##@...whatever you can name!

What in the world are they trying to do? Trying to stop us from joining the anti-ISA rally or the pro-ISA rally? How? By setting up roadblocks? That caused miles and miles of traffic congestion on a working day? During peak hours? Why don't they just declare a curfew! Keep us all at home and shoot anyone that comes out! That will do, right? Create some kind of disturbance among us and correct it later just to show us they are the 'good guys'? Trying to protect us?

Well, whatever they are thinking. Those roadblocks are NOT working! Just look at how many people had gathered to show their support peacefully and yet being harassed and attacked with water cannons and tear gas? Unbelievable!

Whoever started this pro-ISA is definitely the culprit! Agree? What pro-ISA? What is so good about ISA? So that they could nab anyone they fancy without any valid reason? So that whoever that's against their plans will be shut away without a trial? So that they can show who's in POWER! I think this act is more of an 'Insecurity Act' rather than Internal Security Act!

Our country, Malaysia is a liberal country... a multiracial community who lives together harmoniously...

We have the freedom to say what we like, eat what we want, dress how we like, do what we can, as long as it's within the law.

We have the freedom to decide who our life partner is, freedom to date.

We have the freedom to choose our religion. Sounds great right?

Nope! Not if you are born a Malay. The moment you are born to a Malay couple, you are a confirmed Muslim. Yes! No second choice. From young you will be taught to recite the Quran and observes strict Islamic rules.

You cannot eat what you like, only 'halal' food is allowed.

You cannot dress how you like, you must cover your 'aurat' (parts of your body that shouldn't be seen by the public e.g. your arms, legs)

Your life partner must be a Muslim and you cannot go on a romantic date with just your partner alone to places that do not have a third person's presence...they call this 'khalwat'.

And you cannot convert to another religion, once you are a Muslim you must die a Muslim!

If you are caught doing any of the forbidden acts, you'll be tried in the 'Syariah Court'. (Islamic Court) Nothing bad about these yes? They are for your own good!

Recently one Muslim lady model was caught drinking beer (forbidden food) and she was sentenced to be whipped 6 times! Plus a RM5000 fine! Wow! This court is really something. I've heard of criminals such as rapist, robbers, molesters, drug pushers being whipped but for drinking beer? Since when drinking beer has become a serious crime? If she drinks and drives and got someone hurt then I guess she deserves it but for just drinking it?

What about smoking then? Isn't smoking 'haram' too. Even though tobacco did not exist at the time of the revelation of the Quran (7th century A.D.), yet the Quran did state, "...he allows them as lawful what is good, and prohibits them from what is bad..." (Quran 7:157). Meaning? Whatever that is bad for your body is forbidden! It has been proven medically that smoking tobacco (cigarette) causes harm to ones body, therefore smoking is definitely 'haram'? Right?

Then why are Muslims allow to smoke in public and not be fined or whipped for doing so?
Just because the word 'cigarette/tobacco' is not clearly stated in the Quran? So it is just too bad that alcohol's existence is longer than tobacco?

For whatever reason, I surely think that being whipped 6 times for drinking beer is definitely too harsh a punishment for a lady! The honorable judge who passes this sentence might be thinking he's playing god? Cleansing the sins out of this lady? By inflicting pain?

Can't help thinking how lucky I am...

Poor Old Folks?

I read the news a couple of days ago, regarding old folks being abandoned by their children. Some are outraged by this situation and expressed anger over the children's decision and labeled them 'inhuman'?

Right, abandoning your aged parent is really not such a nice thing to do. Then how?

Imagine this : Your aged parent stays with you. They have absolutely no savings because they have used them all up on you! Now you are married, have a steady job of an average income and have a family to feed, your own young children to look after and to see them through school, college and university. You have to pay for your house, credit cards, car, utilities, etc. Wow! Seems like heavy burden! More so if you have ill stricken parents, their medical bill sky rockets and they don't have insurance coverage and thus drains you out financially. Wow 3x! An even heavier burden!

So your wife works to help support your financial needs, send the children to daycare centres. Your aged sick parent stayed at home alone and you call them a few times a day to make sure they are okay, your children call you a few times a day because they missed you? You rush home after work to pick up your wife (you only have one car) and then your children, and go get food for dinner. And you finally reached home to find your parent has soiled his pants and the sofa? Wow! This drains you physically.

And if you say something not so nice.....?

You are not a good child! You are not filial! You are not a good person!??? Yes? No?

Then your parents will be unhappy, you will be unhappy, your family will be unhappy. So sad...

Or....imagine this : Your old aged parents have got plenty of savings, medical insurance coverage up to the age of 80. They don't stay with you but they stayed very near to where you stayed. They are healthy. You don't have to give them monthly allowance, you don't have to pay their medical bills. You just have to take care of your own family. And you visit your parents every weekend and they cook up a sumptuous meal for your family at no cost to you!

You have nothing but only nice things to say to them, how lucky you are to have them as your parents and grandparents to your children!

Your parents are happy, you are happy, your family is happy! Happy ending...yes?

So, my conclusion to this issue is : If you're old and you have no money, then you're f@#ked!!!
Start saving money NOW! And if you're old try not to fall sick? It's better to just die then to get sick. Agree?

Don't put the blame on your children! Do not doubt your children's love for you! Of course they love you! If they have the capability, they will definitely care for you but their family is still their priority.

Therefore be good to yourself now, even if it means you have to be mean to your children. Take care of your own needs first. Do not use up your savings for your children! Do not mortgage your house to send them overseas! Do not finance their business! Sounds cruel?? It's reality!

Remember? You need the money for your old age!

Why do people get upset? Do you get upset? Why?

Sometimes you did something or maybe you didn't do something and someone gets upset. It may be on purpose or not or you didn't even know?

This 'upset' thingy, is it contagious? Can it spread like the A H1N1 virus? Can it spread from one person to another? e.g. You get upset because you think your friend is upset because she thought you were upset when you are actually NOT? Wah! This is so complicated!

'FEELINGS', such a strange thing to understand. Getting upset at one another can be tiring, waste of time, bad for your health, wears you down mentally or maybe even physically?

And why am I saying all these? Because one of my friends say that I'm upset over nothing and I didn't agree. I'm NOT upset! Why? "Because it's written all over your face girl!" Well, okay, I am really not upset over anything more so anyone, sometimes I'm just tired and I like to keep quiet or stay quiet for awhile. I like to sit idle for awhile? Maybe age is catching up with me and menopause is creeping up on me? Is this so hard to accept? That a person cannot sit in silence for some time except during bedtime? And you have to get upset with me because I did this 'abnormal' thingy? Hey, need to meditate meh?

So, can I say this? I won't get upset over nothing or little things or anything which doesn't make sense. I'm quite a sensible person, I think. Just stay cool...when it's over it's over. Not worth it! Just move on!

If I have to say sorry for something that I didn't do...I WILL say it, if it makes everybody happy? It's really not a hard thing to do, much easier than dieting!

If you know Yasmin Ahmad like some do, you probably will be very sad that she has left us.

No, I don't know her personally but her work. I think she is not only talented but bold. She voiced out things that most of us are afraid to, in her films. Differences that could pull us together or tear us apart in this multi-racial country of ours.

If you have watched her films, you would probably know what I am talking about. In her films you can sense that she is trying all she can to unite our people, irregardless of your background, status, race or gender to be the truly '1 Malaysia'. No promises though, not like some of our politicians (hypocrites). Just a message. A very clear and strong message for us to decide for ourselves, for our future generation.

I'm not going to write her profile here, if you want to know just google it. In case you really haven't watch any of her work, here is one for you.

I wonder if there's anyone out there who could continue what she's been doing? Someone with her kind of dedication, compassion and high spirit that might pull our nation together? She's indeed our National Treasure! It's just so sad that we have to lose her so soon!

Childhood Friendship.

If you bumped into your childhood friend after 20 years? How would you react? Excited? Disbelief? Happy? Out of this world? Or you have never thought about this?

It happened to me last week, when I accidentally bumped into my childhood friend.

My first reaction? My jaw dropped (I think) in disbelief and then 3 words kept appearing in my mind...OMG! Wanted to hug her but couldn't coz she was holding her child!

Wow! Felt excited since we haven't met for about 20 years! (since she moved to HK) So many things I wanted to ask her. So many things that I wanted to know. Couldn't do so coz she's with a large group of her family members (reunion meal I guessed).

So we exchanged phone numbers and I went ahead to arrange for our own reunion...with other childhood friends that have stayed in touch.

And on that night, a lot of information were exchanged and updated, lots of laughter! The most used word on that night is "remember". Yes, remember this? Remember that?

A wonderful night indeed, wonderful memories. Is this what childhood friendship is all about? Being able to share sweet and happy memories together? I think yes. It's that time of our life when we have no worries and grouches? How wonderful...after 20 years our friendship remains!

Reminds me of the word we used to pen autographs during schooldays : F.R.A.N.C.E. ( Friendship Remains And Never Can End )

Transformers 2 - Revenge of The Fallen. Wanted to watch this movie sometime last week but didn't get to. Heard about it, read the previews and wondered what's its gonna be like?

Finally watched it today and....ummm...

Okay, I couldn't figure out from the cinema screen who is who? Or is it which is which?
The storyline is okay, well it's sci-fiction! What do you expect! Actions all the way with some comedy thrown in along the way and some sad moments and not forgetting the love scenes (mild ones).

I've watched the first movie and this one is not much different. Just more robots and a little more action. If you like robots and machines, this is a good combination of both. And of course there's Megan Fox! Is she hot or what!

As for Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky), he acts okay but not my type of guy.

I prefer Josh Duhamel (Major Lennox), like this guy. I watched him more often in 'Las Vegas'. He's handsome!

Go watch it if you haven't. This is one show that I don't mind watching again. Maybe I can understand it better if I did?

Why Maths and Science in Bahasa Malaysia again?

When our government decided to change our education medium to Bahasa Malaysia (BM) about 30 over years ago, they must have thought since we're an independent country we should teach our children using our national language. Okay, so all subjects (except English Language) were translated to BM and all students were taught in BM. I'm sure all teachers and students at that time struggled but somehow they managed.

But then, the standard of English in our country has deteriorate since. Going from bad to worse. And then suddenly after 30 years someone realised that they had made a mistake. And they decided to change, not all but 2 subjects to English medium. Mathematics and Science. Somehow they see these two subjects as 'the important ones' that need to be in English. Okay, not everyone is happy with this decision but many agreed. So let's give it a try?

History repeating? Teachers and students struggled but this time I think the teachers struggled more. Imagine if the teacher were born 30 years ago and had studied every subject in BM during his/her primary, secondary, college and university education, how is he/she going to teach our children in English? So these teachers are allowed to teach using 2 languages, BM and English mixed...???

Can you imagine the situation in the classrooms? What is the purpose of changing the medium to English when it will still be taught in BM or worse mixed languages. Thus the children suffered especially those in the rural areas. Probably they didn't take extra tuition classes. Results were not too good and the parents of these children were not happy.

Not happy? Okay, we change! Back to BM! Yes, for your own good! After 13 years! Can you imagine now, what will happened to those children who had studied Maths and Science in BM for 3 years (the project started in year 2002, for Year 1, Form 1 and Form 6 students. Those in Year 4 till 6 UPSR remain in BM), then in English for 3 years (PMR, presently) and then suddenly they have to do them in BM again (SPM)? And then back to English in Form 6? What kind of game is this? What is our government trying to prove? That our children are highly adaptable geniuses?

I'm really not against using BM as our education medium. I'm sure many countries did the same thing. Countries such as Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Myanmar, German, France, and many others did not use English for their education system and yet they can excel. The only thing they lack is communication skills in English which is deem as the international language.

I agree that we should raise the standard of English in our country, but indeed there are many many ways to do it. We could have more English lessons and activities in English. Instead of only 3 - 4 hours a week, maybe 6 hours or more? Most of all, train more English speaking teachers?

I think once you are able to understand, speak, read and write well in English applying it to other subjects should not be a problem at all.

Just by changing our Maths and Science medium to English is not the solution to a better standard of English. Changing it back and forth makes matter worse! Why? Why make things worse?

My say, "Do it once and for all or do nothing at all".

Okay, if this is true, who on earth would sell a property at such rock bottom price. Is this a special arrangement of some kind? Busy week

It has been a busy week. Two events starting one day after the other.
This means preparation work doubled so workload also doubled! Which I liked! More work should mean more income! Right? I hope!

One of the events is the Skate Malaysia 2009 competition which is being held in Sunway Pyramid Ice. Well this is the only place in Malaysia with an ice skating rink so where else can you have it?

Happy skaters

This event is open to all figure skaters and this year they came from Bandung, Hong Kong, Macau, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bangkok and Manila. Somehow this year's turn out is not as good as previous years. Probably due to A H1N1 ?

Anyway, I got to meet up with few of my old friends and managed to make a few new ones and at the same time make a few bucks!

Kelantan prince orders estranged wife to return by July 2

PETALING JAYA: The Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Sultan Ismail Petra has ordered his estranged wife Manohara Odelia Pinot to return to him by July 2, failing which he will proceed with legal action.

Stating that he was her lawful husband under Syariah law, he said Manohara’s rightful place was by his side and that she should obey him as long as it was according to the law.

...???? Is this what the prince of Kelantan actually said? Or else what...??? He will take legal action against her! What legal action? What can the law do? If a woman is not willing to stay with her husband due to certain reasons, is she not allowed to leave him?

You can say anything you want but to force someone to stay with someone he or she doesn't like is just not right. I think no one should live through this kind of mental abuse.

I can imagine this 17 year old girl (model) being swept off her feet by a prince! Showered with promises like those in fairy tales! At such a tender age, no matter how mature your thinking is you could be really fooled by the situation you are in. Your mind can play tricks on you and you will most proba bly be following your heart more. Okay, she made a mistake. And she realized it, so she chose to leave this man. Why not? She is only 17, she has like at least another 50 years to live! I think she deserves a new life, a happier life. What court or law will deny this girl a happier future? How could they?

For whatever reason, whether the prince abuse her physically, sexually or mentally or he didn't. It doesn't matter, what matters actually is that the girl does not feel good to be with him any longer. And she has the right to move on!

As for the prince, I think he's just being arrogant, selfish and somehow power abusive in this matter. Come on, be a man! Take this as a man! I couldn't believe that a prince will behaved in such manner!

Fishing at Laguna Kelana

I decided to join the boys on their weekend fishing game today. So as usual they will prepare everything and I just tag along!

This Laguna Fishing Farm is situated in Kelana Jaya. If you're coming from Sunway, keep to your left on the LDP. After you pass PKNS, somewhere along the LDP you will see SHELL. (Giant Hypermarket is on your right) Get onto that slip road on your left and make a left turn. Follow this signboard! Laguna Fishing Farm is on your left, immediately after you make that left turn.

Maybe next time when you get stuck on the LDP just turn
in and fish for awhile? Relax..

They are opened daily, 3pm to 3am. Sundays 2pm to 2am. Closed on Mondays. Charges? RM10 per rod, no time limit (as long as they are opened).

Shopping made lazy?

This video clip has been around since 2006, if I'm not mistaken. Shopping in a coaster?
It is a supermarket in Shenyang China, where they ferries customers through their shopping centre in coasters.

Sounds kind of fun. Good for those lazy coach potatoes. Blessings for families with children, killing 2 birds with one stone.

But is this really happening? Is this true? I tried to google it but I found nothing about this thing, no previews, no write ups, no comments? Only a video clip on YouTube. But since it has been around (if it is true) since 2006, there should be quite a lot of promo and advertisements and media coverage on this. Or maybe it's a flop? Doesn't go down well for the people there?

If catching on around the world is the builder's dream...well, I guessed I'll just take it as a dream yet to be fulfilled? The idea is cool but I don't think everyone will go for it because it's time consuming. They didn't mention how long it will take for it to complete a cycle of the supermarket. Unless the supermarket is not too big, I would say at least half an hour? And if you missed something, damn! You got to do it all over again. And what if you only want to buy one thing? Damn again! Perhaps if you want to take your kids for a ride on a weekend, I don't think you'd want to shop there. Unless you've plenty of time to kill!

OMG! This is sad! Farrah Fawcett dies before she had the chance to marry her longtime love Ryan O'Neal. And this is just so sad!

This 1970s jiggle icon known equally for "Charlie's Angels," her feathered hair, that skimpy red swimsuit, and her stormy love life, died this morning after a long struggle with anal cancer.

I couldn't say more...may you rest in peace, Farrah!

Bikinis...I wish!

I've always envy girls in their skimpiest bikinis running along the beach! Then I would thought to myself...how nice if I could be like them. Strolling the beach in bikinis!

Well, I couldn't get myself to do it. No matter how hard I try to convince myself. The reason? I'm not in good shape. For certain reasons I cannot say that I'm fat. I don't want anyone to throw stones at me! For those who know me, they'll curse me if I say so!

That's why I use the term 'good shape'. And I certainly do not have it! If you don't understand what I'm trying to say...okay here's the examples.

This is 'Good Shape'

These are not fat? It's not good shape! Get what I mean?

This is also not good shape!

These...fat!

and...extremely fat!

So there you have it! Hope you understand what I'm trying to point out? I'm sure some will say things like, "Why worry, just do want you want lah! Nobody will care what you look like! You see all those gwai poh? They are worse and yet they dare to wear bikinis lor!"

I understand exactly what they mean but then again...when you put on something, don't you want to feel good in it? Don't you want people to look and stare at you and give you the admiring looks? If you say "No" then you are a lair! If you say "couldn't care" then please...go ahead put on your skimpiest bikinis and go run or walk along the beach to and fro 100x! See if you care?

Okay, no offense. This is only my personal opinion! Just do what you want to lah! As for me unless I look and feel good in what I'm in, I'm not going to expose any negative part of me! Am I being paranoid or what?

Anyway I will try to work towards...to be able to put on bikinis the next time I go to a beach! Wish me luck!

Yes, they are depleting in huge numbers everyday. Thanks to the development of human kind! We were there last weekend and it's quite disheartening to imagine that this natural sight will diminish soon. Let's hope not!

It can be a nice weekend outing for your family. If you are not married, it could be quite a romantic outing too. Just remember to bring along some insect repellent. If you enjoy seafood, there are plenty along the way. And they are not costly. So, don't wait. Go now, while the fireflies are still there!

Here are some information for those who wished to visit this place.
The best time to visit the park is after nightfall at approximately 7:30pm to 7:45pm. It is also advisable to go when it is not full moon and not during raining evening. One should take note that once the kelip kelip has found its mate, the flashing would stop, usually by 11.00 pm. Make sure you do not go too late as the park is opened from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.

This is a continuation from my previous blog, 'To the North'.

Yes, we drove out of Bukit Kayu Hitam and

headed towards 'Pearl of the Orient'.

Sunway Hotel, the reason we choose to stay here is because at night this place will be buzzling with hawkers selling

the best food in Penang. But to our disappointment
the stalls were closed on that day.

So we went to Gurney Drive instead.

The food, good but not as good as the ones at McCalister Road!

From Penang...to Ipoh of course! And straight to Ipoh Old Town. White coffee? Yes, the original old town white coffee with a piece of butter and kaya toast! Yumm!

Then to Kampar, to get some chicken biscuits. Remember? There's no chicken in these chicken biscuits (check the ingredients). Ever wonder why they call them chicken biscuits? Tell me about it!

But Kampar is still as pretty as I left it.

Maid mania?

Do we really need maids? I've heard this so many times, "It's a problem to have one and it's also a problem without one". And now there is this big 'hoo hah thingy' going on about maids...

Maid suspension by Indonesian government? Sounds serious! Reasons? Their people are being mistreated in our country?

Yes, right. There have been many complaints that Malaysian employers have been mistreating their maids. Salary not paid? Physical abuse? Verbal abuse? Mental abuse? To avoid all these from recurring, their government has decided to freeze all maids applications to our country unless our government can assure or guarantee that all these will not happen again. Sounds good? Or is it too good to be true? Can they pause and think for a while?

What about us? The employers? Are we not also subjected to mental, verbal and physical abuse by some of the maids? All those cases of run away maids, theft, robbery, child abuse, etc are not new and could be more than we can account for. And what guarantee do we get? Can the Indonesia government guarantee us from such abuses?

I think by stopping their people from coming here legally is not the answer to this problem. In fact it could create more problem. People could be jobless and many might choose to come in illegally. And what will happen then...you might be able to guess.

Someone should come up with a better suggestion
and try settling this amicably?
